Show Up

Inertia keeps us in our current state. It's easier to do nothing and let the system run its natural course. Overcoming that inertia is the hump. Showing up is the hurdle.

The hardest part of exercising isn't the actual exercising (although that's challenging too). Driving the 15 minutes to get to the gym, or getting dressed to go out for that run is the hardest part. Once you're at the gym, you may as well get some reps in. Once you're dressed, you could run a bit, sure.

The hardest part of having a tough conversation with someone isn't the conversation itself. Starting that conversation is the hard part. Sure, the conversation is never going to be easy or fun, but momentum carries you through.


Inertia keeps us in our current state. It's easier to do nothing and let the system run its natural course (physics taught us that). Overcoming that inertia is the hump. Showing up is the hurdle.

And it's one you can get over.
